Abstract

Global developmental delay (GDD) is a developmental disability involving two or more developmental domains, namely gross/ fine motor, speech/language, cognition, social/personal and daily activities. This article discusses dental care and dental beha-viour management in a 4-year-old boy with GDD. The condition of the child's oral cavity needs comprehensive treatment be-cause the damage affects all existing teeth, disrupting eating patterns and affecting the child's nutritional intake. Multiple tooth extractions and multiple dental restorations under general anaesthesia were performed. The post-extraction wound has closed well and all dental caries have been restored, so the child's food intake has increased. It was concluded that successful dental treatment in children with GDD is influenced by patient co-operation and overall medical condition. It is important for parents to take proactive steps to ensure that children receive the necessary dental care.
