Abstract

The high interest in adults in the aesthetics of orthodontics bonded to the lingual surface of the teeth is a testament to the fact that innovation continues despite the initial challenges encountered which can be overcome with some of the current methods. An overview is given of lingual appliance development from concept to the current systems available. This article discusses li-ngual orthodontics from indications, contraindications, along with the types, advantages and disadvantages of this method. It is concluded that the interest in aesthetic orthodontic treatment makes lingual orthodontic appliances currently one of the or-thodontic treatment options.
