Abstract

This systematic review discusses various cell culture techniques, growth media, growth factors and environmental factors that are often used on oral mucosal cells to obtain the most effective oral mucosal cell culture method. Based on the PRISMA state-ment, the search was conducted using three electronic databases, namely PubMed, Scopus, Ebsco Host for articles published in 2012-2022 using specific keywords. The search was limited to invitro research using cell culture, in English, full text, and human oral mucosal cells. Article quality assessment was conducted using the Risk of Bias Assessment Tool for Non-randomised Stu-dies (RoBANS). Eleven articles had good eligibility and met the inclusion criteria for analysis. It was concluded that keratino-cytes and fibroblasts for normal tissues, and OSCC for pathogenic tissues were most commonly used for oral mucosal cell cul-ture, while the widely used culture media were F medium and keratinocyte medium.
