Bleeding complications of post tooth extraction in patients with antiplatelet therapy
Komplikasi perdarahan pasca ekstraksi gigi pada pasien dengan terapi antiplatelet
Abstract
Some researchers have reported that antiplatelet treatment may increase the risk of post-dental extraction bleeding and reported inappropriate discontinuation of antiplatelet therapy may increase the risk of thrombotic complications and post-dental extract-ion bleeding. Cardiac patients on antiplatelet therapy may require tooth extraction or other invasive measures. It is common practice among dentists and surgeons treating patients to discontinue antiplatelet drugs before tooth extraction for fear of bleed-ing complications. This practice may have an effect on patients experiencing adverse thromboembolic events based on bleeding risk theory and case reports of excessive bleeding with anticoagulant therapy. Current recommendations support continuing an-tiplatelet therapy during simple tooth extractions as the incidence of bleeding complications is very low and if bleeding occurs it can be efficiently controlled with local hemostasis measures.
