Abstract

Restoring function and occlusion in the management of bilateral mandibular parasymphysis fractures (BMPF) with open reduc-tion and internal fixation (ORIF) using miniplat and QuickFix. A 21-year-old male was referred for facial trauma following a traffic accident ±1 month ago. CT-scan radiographs revealed BMPF. The patient underwent ORIF using 3 miniplates with intermaxillary fixation using QuickFix. In this patient, BMPF caused malocclusion so that repositioning and fixation using miniplat and screws were carried out to restore the position of the bone and obtain a strong and stable fixation, and avoid stiffness of the mastica-tory muscles and joint function. It is concluded that the management of BMPF with ORIF restores function, occlusion and bone position to maintain immobilisation and stability, in order to support the ossification process in the fractured part.
