Abstract
Heat polymerised acrylic resin (HPAR) is often used in the manufacture of dentures because it has many advantages, but it also has disadvantages, including being easy to absorb liquids so that the base changes colour. Discolouration can be caused by se-veral factors, one of which is consuming coloured beverages such as green tea. This article reports on the post-soaking disco-louration of HPAR base in green tea solution. A laboratory experimental study with post test only with control group design used HPAR plate samples measuring 65×10×2.5 mm. These samples were divided into 6 groups: 3 treatment groups soaked in green tea solution for 3 days, 5 days, and 8 days, and 3 control groups soaked in artificial saliva for the same days. The discolouration was measured using Adobe Photoshop® with the CIELab system, the L*, a*, and b* were determined and the formula ∆E*ab was used. Data were analysed by Saphiro-Wilk test, two-way Anova test and LSD test. There were colour changes based on the type of soaking and soaking time (p=0.00; p<0.05)) and significant differences for 3 and 8 days (p=0.01). It is concluded that green tea solution causes discolouration of HPAR base.
